And Finally...

Elie Saab
One of my most memorable fashion moments has to be Halle Berry at the Oscars in 2002. I remember everyone talking about the dress and I needed to know what the hype was about, why was it so special? And then I saw it. It was an iconic dress with just the right balance of classy and sexy and although it was a daring look, the risk paid off. So, what genius made this dress? Well, we all know him now but at the time Elie Saab meant nothing to me. However, from that moment on, it was a name I never forgot.

Elie Saab must be eternally grateful that Halle Berry chose that dress because nowadays any red carpet is incomplete without his work. When you see an Elie Saab creation you don’t need to ask “who are you wearing?”. You just know. Every year, when the Oscars come around, celebrities always choose Elie Saab in the hope that they will have the “Halle Berry” moment and, although perhaps not quite as iconic, every one of his designs is perfection.

For all of those reasons, I am always excited to see the new Elie Saab collection. I always sieve through it, adding dresses to my look book so that come Oscar time, I can play “pin the dress on the actress”. Last season’s Elie Saab couture collection was perhaps one of the best. I was completely astounded and desperate to see what rtw had to offer.
The quality of this collection was extremely high. There was a very clear 70’s style of dressing in the looks, but not that of the disco days, reprised by Marc Jacobs for LV. This was more seventies glamour. Some of the final pieces were effortlessly chic and confirmed that any actress in Elie Saab at this year, would positively make the best dressed list.

The soft colours would flatter any skin tone and the cut of each dress makes for the perfect silhouette. Most of the pieces were dramatic, yet not too “out-there” but everything had a definite elegance. Elie Saab is always the master at making a woman look like a lady without a hint of “prude” It was a victory for Elie Saab, and another chance to secure his future as Hollywood’s go-to-guy come awards season.
