Cosmic Girl

I am a slut for the christopher kane  resort 2011 galaxy dresses. To be fair i go crazy for everything he does. I become hypnotised by those trippy, sci-fi fantasy digital prints. The captivating explosions of colour amidst the immeasurable, never-ending darkness connotes an androgynous 90's grunge sort of feeling despite the acutely feminine cut of the dresses.   

 I admire how identical prints have translated so easily into his  debut menswear collection. However, despite corresponding, his womenswear  and menswear are starkly different in sublte ways. The menswear is much more casual with sportswear accents but still posesses a daring quirk in the soft black leather suits and the obsucrity of the prints. Kane took inspiration from constellations; marvelling the warmth of colour and the intricate detailing. “I became obsessed with the explosions and landscapes from space pictures,”  Kane explained. “I printed them on to simple shapes, like loose fit T-shirts, cashmere and silk-mix knitted sweaters and cardigans.”  

Not to be overlooked is Kane's resort 2010 collection which has a similar brooding, dusky peculiarity. This was the establishment of a recurring explosion theme. However, rather than the warm planetary bursts, there were chemical and nuclear bombs, mushroom clouds and dusty residue. I love the dirty and sinister yet seductive undertone of this collection. It is one of many magic christopher kane moments and just another addition to my long list of reasons why i am backjing him for the bfc designer fashion fund.
