From best dressed to worst dressed...

When Michelle Obama attended a state dinner welcoming the Chinese president, she wore a burnt red, floral print, Alexander McQueen resort dress with an asymmetric neckline. The first lady's bold choice turned heads so far that necks were snapping...but for all the wrong reasons.

On the surface, it seemed like another credible fashion moment and, as a bonus, honoured her guest as red  is the colour of luck in China. However, Mrs O took a blow that she didn't see coming and was attacked from all angles by some of fashions biggest names who were shocked at her decision to "reject" American designers.

Diane Von Furstenburg; 'Our First Lady Michelle Obama has been wonderful at promoting our designers, so we were surprised and a little disappointed not to be represented for this major state dinner.'

Oscar de la Renta; "My understanding is that the visit was to promote American-Chinese trade.
'American products in China and Chinese products in America. Why do you wear European clothes?"

CFDA; We believe in promoting American fashion. Our First Lady Michelle Obama has been wonderful at promoting our designers, so we were surprised and a little disappointed not to be represented for this major state dinner.”

Michelle is admired by women all over the world for her courageous attitude towards fashion. She is glamorous and age appropriate without compromising style. Therefore it seems only right that Mrs Obama would retaliate strongly, firmly standing her ground; "Look, women, wear what you love. That's all I can say. That's my motto. I wear what I like because…I gotta be in the dress, so…"

Couldn't have said it better myself. Since when did fashion become a dictatorship?
