Boogy with Betsey

Betsey Johnson has proved that not even bankruptcy can kill the kitsch.

In a staggering 90 looks, the queen of quirk presented a Valentine's day inspired collection which was split into two parts "he loves me"; the discount pink patch line and "he loves me not"; the higher end black tag collection. After 40 years in the business, Johnson knows how to throw a god damn party that's gonna keep you dancing all night.

"He loves me not" opened the nights theatrics and, although there were magnetic explosions of colour, overflowing with playful eccentricity, it seemed to be a front for darker undertones. The models wore blunt black wigs and a ferocious gothic demeanour with a sexy gloominess surrounding the monochromatic pieces and creeping into the assortment of prints.

"He loves me", on the other hand, was "affordable, accessible and true blue Betsey". Employees of the designer label took to the runway complete with "authentic" betsey blonde wigs, kitted out in greatest hits pieces. Florals, tartans, fluorescent cartoon prints, the acclaimed signature Johnson cartwheel and a boogy with Patricia Field concluded the flamboyant spectacle.

Hopefully i'll get my breath back in time for next season.

“We’re both from the same planet,” said Patricia Field, “It’s planet happy, funny, color, sexy, fun, girly, and we love it"
