My love affair began at the age of 14, taking an unconsented and partially illicit, day trip with my best friend to visit her boyfriend. We loitered the streets, had a barbecue and, after being escorted from a park by police, our youthful venture fell to a thudding, abrupt close with a phone-call from a very angry parent, demanding my exact whereabouts and my immediate return....
However, as nostalgic memoires fade into sentimental, wistful yearnings of regret, i divert your attention towards Newry's current attraction (which thankfully has crap all to do with my unsuitable personal exploits)
After having recently travelled to New York, London, Milan and Paris (albeit through a dusty, computer screen, characterised by clumsy peanut butter smudges), NEWRY STYLE CITY is mustering enough excitement to conquer my, less than, "international ventures".
In a reckless, style extravaganza, this cultural hotspot will play captivating host to a stonkering 25 events spanning a 7 day period (10th-17th april), taking place in various energized locations around the city. From Canal Court Hotel to Southern Regional College, and every winding road in between, Newry Style City will showcase all the latest spring/summer trends, dragged straight from the international catwalks, to be inspirited by our eager, irish charm.
The week's festivities will be propelled into motion with the expertly crafted, "Style City Show" in Bellini's Bellagio Suite on 10th April, encompassing a glorious mélange of both highstreet and locally designed gems. After being treated to cocktails, canapés, goody bags and professional style advice, us fashion hungry femme fatales can then attend various expos to claw out the most lusted after pieces.
In an absolute whirlwind of shows, exhibitions, model searches and fashion first-aid master classes, ticket holders can attend the Rose of Tralee, county Down regional final, as well as an intimate demonstration of seasonal must-haves, presented by channel 4's Marietta Doran.
However, Newry Style City's most electrifying event will take place on Sunday 17th April at the Vault (the bank nightclub), closing the week-long fashion fete. "Newry's Most Stylish Awards" will recognise those who, not only, exude fluent,effortless glamour in their daily endeavours but also rightfully advocate the city's style credentials.
