Shiny, shiny, shiny dress of sequins, whiplash girlchild in the dark.....

Inspired by poignant moments in the fortified history of modern art, The Rodnik Band burry a diamond into the fertile earth of London Fashion Week.

Christened "Venus in Sequins" (respectfully paying homage to the Velvet Underground's "venus in furs") designer, Philip Colbert, gussied his beautiful collection in an ornamental gathering of pop-art print impressions and kitsch sculptured animations, as a "contextual reference to the 1960s avant-garde art scene in New York" puppeteered by the knowing hands of Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick.

Masterly enriched with jazz soaked sequins upon classic vintage and retro shapes, Colbert's designs escape the restrictions of fashion and run free into the empire of conceptual art-form. As a graduate of philosophy, the designer interweaves his hand-crafted pieces with bold satirical humour, which he believes to be " a powerful tool to push understanding and encourage a thoughtful approach to clothing"

Taking the zestful and childlike form of inanimate objects such as; lobsters, soup cans and urinals....yes that's right, URINALS, the playful garments are colourfully invigorated with buoyant, cartoon enthusiasm and, although lacking common wearability, "Venus in Sequins" powerfully spurs a message of capturing pleasure to be released in a kingdom of ultimate coquettish fantasy.
