Begrudgingly, we got to know those soppy Wakefield twins and, numb with idle absurdity, we became evasively absorbed into their ridiculous relationship entanglements for 25 minutes, barely withstanding seven long days until the next instalment. But what did i know, i was only 6.

However, for their new s/s 2011 lookbook, Wildfox Couture have fashionably modified the deficient "Sweet Valley High" premise and tainted it with punchy, kitsch nostalgia. Washed-out logo t-shirts, denim cut offs and varsity jackets, sooth the editorial into the instinctive "California Cool", but sew it together rustically with vintage yearning (did i just call 90s vintage? god, i feel old)
Once again, the Wildfox team naturally trap the wistful allure of free spirited youth, lacing the clothes with melancholic reflections of teenage, summer fun. Pool parties, sleepovers, general loitering and hints of girl on girl "ventures" (just sayin') were directed, styled and shot entirely at FERRIS BUELLER'S HOUSE, to amplify the undercurrents of 1980s cheese.
The collection, of course, hit another home-run for Wildfox Couture. Crop tops and loose t-shirts had a light breeziness, casually infused with neon flares and graphic prints. Although slightly evocative of childhood clothing nightmares, Wildfox managed to reign in the camp and flirt stylishly with nonchalant, americana mellow.
I promise, this edgy renovation WON'T have you pining for Elizabeth and Jessica's incoherent high-school drama shite, instead you'll be invited to revamp the "classic" with sex, drugs and dirty streaks.
