somewhere over the....

When i'm writing in my little office, i set my crystals on the window ledge to recharge and watch how they catch the light, seeing a rainbow of colours move through them. Although the physics is complex, there's something so simple about this image, the sort of thing that would captivate the imagination of a child.

And all this time, i thought it was just me - too easily amused.

For his 2012 resort collection, Christopher Kane trapped himself in a prism, played with the reflection of light and caught a spectrum of colours. The collection comes as a departure but also as a natural progression for the award winning designer, whose signature youthful shapes, adopt a bounty of new prints and textures that echo his past, but mature with his future.

Commercial party dresses saw a playful retro cut and common skater style but showed versatility alongside subtle work-wear suits which became the darkness, enclosing his vibrant ray of light. With wearable separates however, came contrasting innovation with soft pink, metallic lame, rigid sun-ray pleating and sequin jumpsuits.

Bright blue leather jackets and soft metallics siphoned the fluidity of his Fall collection, which was further evoked by comparable sheer panelling that saw sensual little hint of flesh escape from behind the pieces. Although reminiscent of Kane's greatest hits, the line was whimsically invigorated by rainbow brights, timely marking the gay pride celebrations and Governor Cuomo's passage of the marriage equality act in the state of New York, did he see that one coming?

So as designer, apparent gay right's activist and newly established prophet of current affairs, old Chris Kane has got it going on.
