Newry Style City 2012 Springs to Life


The photoshoots are complete, the catwalk is ready and local shops are bursting at the seams for the return of Newry Style City. Last year's social calender highlight is back, bigger and better than ever.

Running from March 25 - April 1,dedicated followers of fashion are invited to a series of free and ticketed events, catered to all tastes. There are still opportunities for local retailers, hairdressers, beauticians and other specialists to get involved by contacting Newry Chamber.

Orla Jackson, chief executive of Newry Chamber of Commerce and Trade and chair of the Newry Style City Committee said: "We are thrilled to once again bring Newry Style City to life to showcase the fabulous retail and service sectors in our city. This year we are working in partnership with Southern Regional College and members of the Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership board to provide work experience placements as part of the festival"

Buttercrane shopping centre will launch festivities with fringe events on March 24. From 11am to 4pm, 'Models in the Mall' will showcase key spring/summer trends. The centre's fashion gurus will slso be on the prowl for potential fashionistas, to pursue those with 'Street Style'. The pick of the pack will feature on the Newry Style City facebook page for the public to like and select who they deem to have the best street style. The eventual winner will be announced at the week's closing event; the Newry Style Awards.

The Quays shopping centre will hold the final of 'The Quay's Next Top Model' on March 24 and select a winner to model in the Newry Style City Catwalk Show (March 28) and secure a contract with Style Academy Model Agency in Belfast.

Exciting events will take place throughout the city,  including; 'Newry Speed Styling' , a professional catwalk show, 'Diamonds and Daquiris', Model Spotting, Street Style, Southern Regional College fashion show, Mr & Mrs at the Canal Court Hotel, stylish flash mobs at the Quays and a wedding fayre. The week will close with the fabulous Connor Philips from Cool FM hosting the annual Newry Style Awards, where the city's most stylish will walk away with coveted awards.

Entry is now open for Newry Style Awards on facebook and admission to this event will be pay at the door.
