sex sells

i think it's fair to say that i have been overwhelmed with information lately.

I wanted to dive straight into fashion week but when looking into the water, it seemed boundlessly deep and i slowly began to back away from the edge. I had no idea where to begin but the arrival of Marc Jacobs' collection has eased my tension and given me a favourable starting point.

The aptitude of a designer is seen greatly through their ability to develop and prosper. Marc Jacobs has proved that he is one such talent, as he steps away from last season's loose, glamourous 1970s inspired collection and moves into a tighter more disciplined outfit for fall 2011.

Alongside retro styling and a mass of vintage Marc Jacobs polka dots, modern influence was punched in, as the models marched down the runway to heavy metal belters. The designer clearly had sex on his mind (then again, who doesnt?) Everything from the collection, inspired by "sex shops and insane asylums", was straight and controlled, covered up without a hint of flesh.

With a curvy 1940s  silhouette and a vast arrangement of raunchy textures, the designer kept it seductive without crossing the vulgar line. The looks were sleek and pulled together in pencil skirts, peplum jackets and vinyl head-pieces with chinstraps. However, there was a rique flare for experimentation when it came to materials; the severity of latex was used contrastingly against tweed, polyester and soft velour. Rubber was made to look like sequins and sequins made to look like fur.

Mr Jacobs has provided me with the perfect break into the fashion week storm by highlighting the possibility to make innovative developmental advances with style, as well as theatrics. bravo.
