Love It Light- and stylish

Following on from its incredible success in 2010, Diet Coke has once again teamed up with Belfast FASHIONWEEK to launch the Diet Coke Design Award, to seek out and reward aspiring talent from a student designer or a style fan with a passion for fashion. And just as Diet Coke announces its global design collaboration with fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, who has created three of his own limited edition bottles, this competition once again celebrates the brand’s links to all things stylish across Ireland.

Fashion lovers and design students from colleges and universities throughout Ireland will be invited to enter the prestigious competition which will bring one lucky winner some fantastic opportunities in fashion including having their design made into a commercial garment by leading couturier, UnaRodden. In addition, they will also be able to see their creation hit one of Ireland’s biggest catwalks at Belfast FASHIONWEEK, before having it photographed by top fashion photographer, Khara Pringle. On top of this, the winner will also win a scholarship to attend a course at the London College of Fashion which will further develop and hone their design talent. Entrants will be asked to put their raw talent to work by designing a fashion forward and unique garment which captures the ‘Love it Light’ attitude to life and a panel of leading fashion experts will judge entries to choose the winning look.

Nora Torpey, Senior Activation Manager at Diet Coke is delighted to be launching again, “We were really overwhelmed with the interest and the standards in last year’s competition so we’re very  pleased to be able to run with it again this year and we’re looking forward to seeing all the fantastic entries. The design award ties in really well with our global Karl Lagerfeld collaboration and we’re excited to announce that his limited edition Diet Coke bottles will be available exclusively for audience members (and of course each of our design entrants) at Belfast FASHIONWEEK.”

Last year’s winner, Julie Watson from County Fermanagh commented, “I entered last year because although I’m not studying or working in fashion, design has always been a passion of mine and I couldn’t believe it when I won. I learned so much from Una Rodden when I worked alongside her on the production of my winning design and to see my design on the catwalk at Belfast FASHIONWEEK was just incredible. I am due to attend my course in London in July this year and I cannot wait to get stuck in and learn some new skills!”

Heck- if Karl can do it, you can too!
