brush stroke of genius

A picture is worth a thousand words but a great picture needs only one to elucidate its captivating virtue.
In the case of Rene Gruau, that word is timeless.

7 years after the forlorn passing of fashion's most prodigious illustrator, on 20th April, Christies of London will momentarily awaken Rene Gruau's wonderment by auctioning off a little trail of his greatest pearls.

With each voluptuous brush stroke, Rene Gruau not only captured the essence of haute-couture glamour, but enhanced the moment with intense sensuality. His aptitude for poising control over line and block colour, merited him bespoke and evocative eminence, flowing effortlessly through the history of style.

Working alongside labels such as Dior, Lanvin, Givenchy and magazines such as Elle, Vogue and Madame Figaro, Rene Gruau's legacy endures the forceful limitations of time and mortality. Before the dawn of advertising, Gruau's luxurious and fruitful bestowal, single handedly, elevated the prestige of haute-couture design, reinvigorating the garments with a perfumed scent of aggrandized opulence.

Rene Guau's creative tremor continues to linger through his immortal Moulin Rouge advertising campaigns and an enchanting poster for La Dolce Vita. In addition to his perennial persistence, many may note Gruau's visible imprint upon the most recent Dior couture collection which was seized by dramatic silhouettes, long opera gloves, fluid lines and a wondrous "chiaroscuro" degrade effect.

I was wrong; It seems that "timeless" is not quite enough. If a picture is indeed worth a thousand words, Gruau's innovation warrants many more.
