Grey Is The New Black

We all know how terrifying the aging process is and it is made so much more difficult by society’s obsession with retaining youth. Furthermore, you can not ignore the constant media attention on, miraculously, wrinkle free 50 year old celebs. Yes Madonna, we’re talking about you. So, could this woman mark the end of the anti-aging era?

Kristen McMenamy is a timeless beauty. At 46 years of age she is enjoying a successful modelling career with spreads in Dazed and Confused and Vogue as well as recently walking for Calvin Klein. She is just like any other model…apart from her long grey hair. Kristen stopped colouring her hair six years ago and now confidently embraces her striking silver locks and, rather than a flaw, it has become her main selling point. She is more in demand now than at any other point in her long-standing career.

This beauty prefers her natural look and explains that “You can get older and still be rock and roll” It’s about time that women were allowed to grow old with confidence. It is an emotionally exhausting period in life, made incredibly stressful by the fact that, it is almost unacceptable to let your youth slip away. Trying to nip, tuck, dye, fill in and smoothen out is impossible and trying to match the perfect image of aging celebrities like Kylie is, quite frankly, unattainable
As well as breaking one of the last taboos, the admiration of Kristen expresses how originality is triumphing over blending in. 2010 is becoming a time of drastic change as we are, finally, letting go of the concept of an ideal image. Coveting flawlessness is out; grey is in.
