t is inevitable, the sun goes away and the Uggs come out. It has been a recurring pattern of, more or less, the last decade. They might not be the most fashionable of footwear but Ugg boots are, quite frankly, heaven for your feet when it gets a bit chilly. So, it was only a matter of time before a high fashion label jumped on the ever-growing success of the Australian boot-making brand.
The Jimmy Choo/Ugg collaboration was announced back in January but recently Nicky Hilton (sister of Paris) sneakily posted a picture of her “Chuggs” on Twitter. The new version of the popular sheepskin boots, set to launch in October, carry the mark of any typical Jimmy Choo with fabulous fringing and embellishment. Combine this with the comfort of the Ugg and voila; you should have perfection in boot form.
Tamara Mellon, founder of Jimmy Choo, is an expert when it comes to expanding her empire. She recently collaborated with H&M and also designed a pair of Welly Boots that are seen on everyone who’s anyone at festivals, so it’s only natural for her to grab this opportunity will both hands and squeeze it until it turns to dust.
However a £695 price tag is unlikely to have everyone choosing fashion over comfort when it comes to their Uggs. Honestly, for a fraction of that price, you could go to a craft shop, get some glitter and glue, throw it all over your regular Uggs and you would have something that wouldn’t be entirely dissimilar.
The Jimmy Choo Ugg will range between £495-£695 and will be available in October 2010. For more information, visit www.jimmychoo.com
