You always expect Jean Paul Gaultier to pull out all the stops and with the end in sight, it would have to be a good send off. Hermès delved into its roots and what we were given was equestrian with a bit of a twist. The first look certainly caught my attention; Karlie Kloss in a skin tight leather suit. It was evil ring-leader meets s&m horse rider. It definitely set a tone.
Gaultier’s knack for tailoring was certainly used to his advantage with this collection. The skin tight pants and revealing neck lines made me look at horse riding in a way I never thought I would. The middle of the collection had some really stunning ready to wear pieces especially regarding the fitted trousers and nipped in jackets. There were also some jumpsuits and jersey pieces that would translate nicely into evening wear.
Towards the end of the collection, things took a little turn for the western with the length, the corseting and the fringing. It didn’t have the fun of Louis Vuitton but JPG 100% compensated with drama and exquisite fashion.
