Miu Miu-ve Over

Andy Warhol once said that someday “everybody will have their fifteen minutes” because we all want to be a star.

This idea was especially true with regards to the latest Miu Miu collection.  There was a recurring theme of stardom in every look with bright, bold, eye catching statement pieces, colourful prints, shining metallics and star images. Every look was more daring than the last, depicting a growing hunger for fame.

The catwalk itself, a glossy red dance floor, was fit for any celebrity and the soundtrack, which included, strangely, the theme tune featured at the start of American Idol, was interesting and also somewhat symbolic and suggestive of the subject matter. When asked about it, Miuccia Prada noted that the collection was a social commentary and said, “I was thinking about everybody’s obsession with being famous”

The clothes were very modern and certainly directed towards the young Hollywood of today and our preoccupation with their glamorous, dramatic lives. You could see any female starlet in these pieces, commanding the attention of the room. Miu Miu has always been like Prada’s quirky little sister and the looks are for girls with a bit of an edge, not the shying wall-flower. If every girl wants to get noticed and if everybody wants to be famous, this collection will be a big seller.
