Perry Nice Indeed

“Fred Perry is my be-all-an-end-all. I’ve always loved it, always worn it. It feels like a living dream” Amy Winehouse is clearly Fred Perry’s biggest fan, so some sort of collaboration was always on the cards.
Today her collection for the heritage brand was launched along with promotional shots of Ms Winehouse modelling the garnments. The pieces add a…cleaner side to her quirky style but fit her iconic image perfectly. When asked to design a 17 piece womenswear and accessories line, she said that she knew exactly what she wanted and also managed to persuade the label to stock a size 6 to fit petite frames, like hers.
All the classic Fred Perry trademarks are still there; the polo tops, the golfing jumpers, the checks, the harrington jacket and the pencil skirt but it’s definitely Winehouse’s collection. It carries the same colour pallette throughout, sticking to pink, black, white and grey; there’s femininity but it has her sharp edge. A very 50’s/early FP vibe is evident and Amy’s silhouette and statuesque beehive captures the retro look impeccably.
The affordable items range from £22-£100, which is about the same price as most Fred Perry pieces, if not cheaper. However, the line doesn’t even really need that incentive because it is appealing on its own. It is elegantly casual with a degree of Amy Winehouse eccentricity. Put together, the items make great outfits but also work well as stand-alone pieces. I desperately want to get my hands on the grey capri pants and argyle jumper before the collection sells out, and i would be utterly astonished if it didnt.
Well done Wino!
