The Likely Winner

The British Fashion Awards will take place tonight and, recieving a posthumus award for outstanding achievement in fashion design, is the legendary ex-taxi driver who made theatrics and extreme creativity part of wearable fashion; the late Alexander McQueen.
McQueen’s talent and innovation has always been recognised, supported and encouraged by the British Fashion Council who have awarded him with the “designer of the year” prize on four occasions.
However, this particular award, previously received by Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano, celebrates  ”the exceptional talent of an individual who has contributed to the British fashion industry both internationally, and here in the UK.” Thus, considering the impact of Alexander McQueen’s work; this accolade was always an inevitable part of his career, even depsite his untimely death.
His legacy will be commemorated with a film directed by Nick Knight which will call attention to the most iconic moments of McQueen’s career and is set to feature music by Bjork, who sang at his funeral. Knight talked about his film stating; “This is my way of speaking about a very unique and important person who changed my life. My desire was to speak in some way about the dark and the light contained within Lee, and within us all,” I’m sure there wont be a dry eye when this is shown; i know i’d be crying like a baby.
McQueen is the only person even eligible for the award at this moment in time. His death is still an open wound that is so fresh in everyone’s mind.  Furthermore, his work is so prominently at the fore  and this entire year has been spent celebrating his legendary designs; so what better way to round it all off?
