for mcqueen and country

The last few alexander mcqueen collections have had a strong aire of aristocracy and wealth but for pre-fall, it seems that sarah burton is moving from the superior to the slightly more inferior by employing rigid military tactics.
Burtons army was inspired by the order of the guard- one of the highest honours of british royalty and still managed to exude more grandeur than even imaginable. There was no subtlety in this collection; everything down to the double breasted gold buttons had a strong militant influence. Even the less combative pieces were held with exaggerated structure and an authoritarian stance; burton’s way of saying she’s going nowhere.
My favourite look from the collection has all the signature alexander mcqueen design explorations; extreme volume, feathers galore and fierce structural detail. The black and navy feathered gown gave me that little touch of magic that i needed.
