at gucci everyone was crazy ‘bout a sharp dressed woman. Yet again, the 70s inspired us but this time with a slight military twist. I enjoyed the simplicity of the greys and browns but out of the 42 looks, around half were (i hate to used this word but…) fillers. One outfit to catch my eye was a turquoise, velvet suit with skinny fit pants, it’s worth noting how remindful it is of a magnificent piece from Zac Posen’s pre-fall collection; minus the animal print. Some of the black furs were pretty chic too; especially so as part of exaggerated cuffs on another velvet pant suit. The final look of the collection is also worth a mention as the black floor length gown with cut out detail is sure to make an appearance on some red carpet this award season.

Last season’s Balenciaga was a fierce mod/punk  fusion with heavy duty leathers, big biker boots and exaggerated dog-tooth prints- my fashion nirvana. For pre-fall, Nicolas Ghesquière kept the quirk but moved towards a more feminine sensibility with lighter footwear and beautiful prints from a combination of indian and tribal inspiration. Most of the pieces were stand-out and i adored the jumpers with a flaring pleat at the bottom. The mid section was consistently pleasing with a black/red/grey/silver colour scheme but my most lusted after piece is found towards the end in the form of a massive purple fur jacket that trails me back to childhood memories of sesame street characters. A fun and vibrant collection with a dash of obscurity to keep the mystery.
