pre-falling

Maybe its my surprisingly sunny disposition but i have welcomed that last few pre-fall collection with wider arms and a cheesier grin that usual and the run hasn’t ended yet. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez delved deep into the unknown for the new Proenza Schouler collection, going boldly where they haven’t really gone before; knitwear. This, for me, was their pre-fall climax as they put bold colours against black to make the jumpers and cardigans all warm and cosy; everything knitwear should ideally be. The colour combos were yet another highlight particularly with a tangy blue next to a vibrant raspberry pink and black to tie everything together. They also experimented with overlaying a variety of patterns, prints and lengths which worked a treat and made this collection outshine the other pre-fallers as something  apart from fur  and leather was finally on offer.

“i didn’t touch black on purpose, brown is the new black” Ricardo Tisci decided to take a step in a different, lighter direction for pre-fall, utilising every shade of brown ever known to man. The designer cited english fishermen of the 1970s as his inspiration which on the surface seems bizarre but when introduced to the colour scheme and a focus on outerwear, things begin to fall into place; albeit a very strange and unvisited place….My adoration for Mr Tisci stems not only from his experimental insight when it comes to changing the future of fashion but also from the fact that his ready to wear is so close to couture. This is especially true with his unconventional pairing of fabrics and colours; the highest of high points being sheer gowns hiding beneath heavy masculine farmer-esque jackets and the intricate detail that is evident in the white ruffled dress with sheer lace that flowed from thigh to floor. this collection is definitely a fisherman’s friend.
