A Man of all Trades

I have a few Matthew Williamson moments. One happened a few years back when Cheryl Cole appeared on X-factor wearing a stunning floor length gown from his s/s 2009 collection. It had cute little cap sleeves but more importantly it was sequined within an inch of its life. I was bedazzled by it. The other Matthew Williamson moments all involve Sienna Miller. As his close friend she often showcases his work at premiers of her films or at any red carpet event really. She carries off his little part dresses perfectly with opaque tights or casual hair and makeup but she also stuns in his more dramatic pieces, like at the Oscars in 2006 in a gorgeous strapless green Grecian inspired dress with Jude Law on her arm to accessorise.

Last night Miss Miller was the centre of attention at the Matthew Williamson book launch party. She wore long blue flowing dress with asymmetric strap detailing. The dress, which came straight off Mr Williamson’s runway, is an incredible statement piece which certainly put Sienna in the spotlight, however the volume and length of the dress was a bit overwhelming for her slight frame. It’s always good to be daring, and she usually gets it so right but maybe Matthew should pay more attention when dressing his best customer.

However, you can’t really blame Matthew Williamson for not being entirely focused on Sienna Miller’s wardrobe choices because, along with a book launch and various other projects, it has recently been announced that Matthew Williamson is set to create a new diffusion line for A/W 2011. “Muse by Matthew Williamson” will be a more affordable range to rival the likes of Marc by Marc Jacobs and See by Chloe. It is for modern women who want the quality and essence of MW designer pieces but for the price of the high-street.  I’ll definitely be buying if the collection is actually affordable. His designs always have something really fresh and wearable about them and can be combined with basics to create an entirely new look. I can’t wait to see it.
