Elie Saab’s most illustrious creations will take centre stage at Harrod’s Luxury Display Lobby until dec 22. The exhibition gives the public the extraordinary opportunity to view, first hand, the gowns made by Saab, that have featured on Gwyneth Paltrow, Diane Kruger, Beyonce, Helen Mirren and Penelope Cruz, to name but a few. Of course what would this exhibition be without that legendary couture masterpiece worn by Halle Berry at the 2002 Oscars where she became the first woman of colour to win the award for best actress. That gown created one of the most memorable and inspirational fashion moments in history and established Elie Saab as the “award’s season designer” for the most high profile starlets. You just know that every woman wearing an Elie Saab is desperate to have her “Halle Berry Moment”. A few have come close but none have managed to out-do the perfect look quite yet, but Elie Saab’s collections just keep getting better, so there is hope and potential.
This is just one of those times when i wish i lived in London. There’s no entrance fee to the exhibition so i could come and go as i pleased, admiring the detail and the design, staring open mouthed in adoration. Unfortunately i dont think, i’ll make it over in time but i can always hold on tightly to my dream of one day attending the Oscars, having been personally styled by Mr Saab himself in a dress that makes Halle Berry’s look like misplaced shrubbery. Well, if you’re going to dream, you may as well go for gold, eh?
